Austland is a country located in Eastern Maredoratica. It borders Prekonate to the north and east and Milograd to the south. The nation is populated by around 71 million citizens of various ethnic backgrounds. With an area of xx km Austland is the x biggest country in Maredoratica.
Austland was formed following a mass migration of German speaking Jews from Ostria. Seeking both religious and political freedom the Jews fled to Eastern Maredoratica to an underpopulated Whiskeasian colony. In 1912 the majority of the colony was made up of Jewish expats from Ostria. The Whiskeasian Crown granted the colony independence as a dominion in 1914, creating the Federation of Austland. As time passed the Federation grew in numbers due to the large exodus of the Jewish community in hiding. In 1917 various neighboring countries formally stated their disapproval of a Jewish state and threatened to invade. On Rosh Hashanah in 1917 the neighboring country of xx launched a surprise attack against the city of Mokum in Austland. By 1919 the Austlanders invaded various neighboring countries in retaliation leading to the the Rosh Hashanah War. Due to superior foreign funding and training the Austlander's easily reclaimed Mokum and pushed forward to expand the federation. The war ended when xx stepped in and stopped the expansion in 1923. In 1932 various revolts within the Federation lead to an armed conflict between the Austlanders and the natives. By 1936 the insurrection had been defeated by the Austlander government with support from other foreign powers.
In 1938 a council made up of Whiskeasian, Austlander, and Hardenburghian diplomats met in Camp Mendal to discuss the future of Austland. At the meeting the Austlanders were granted independence by the Whiskeasian crown, shifting the Federation from a dominion into a full fledged independent state. On August 2nd, 1938 The Articles of the Federation were signed in by the transitional parliament. The Articles formed the democratic system still currently used by the Federation. In the 1940s and 50s more stuff happened and then possible wars later.
